The Animated Series “White Dreams” Premieres on August 8 on the “Smotrim” Platform
08.08.2024
The “Digital Television” media holding has announced the premiere date and released the trailer for the animated series “White Dreams.” On August 8, viewers of the “Smotrim” platform will be the first to enjoy this project about the adventures and discoveries of polar explorers in the Arctic.
The script for “White Dreams,” written by Andrey Zolotkov, was selected as the winner of the nationwide “Mult Pitching” in 2022, which received about 400 submissions. The series is produced by the animation studio “Parovoz” under the commission of the “Digital Television” media holding, with support from the Internet Development Institute (ANO “IRI”).
The story follows scientists Yuri and Kolya, who live at a drifting ice station. They explore the region, assist oil workers, participate in launching a data center, rescue bears, communicate with animals through their inventions, make scientific discoveries, embrace adventures, and meet new friends. Viewers will meet the main characters: young romantic scientist Yuri, experienced polar explorer Kolya, a kind and sweet-toothed polar bear named Nanuk (who understands human speech as he grew up among people), Chinese pilot Mingli, and the mysterious Amana, who skillfully rides a reindeer, speaks the language of whales, and possesses the ability to hear nature and predict the future.
“The secret to the success of ‘White Dreams’ lies in the combination of exciting adventures and important ecological messages. The heroes—polar explorers Yuri, Kolya, and their friend Mingli—not only experience thrilling stories but also demonstrate the importance of caring for nature and preserving the Arctic ecosystem,” says scriptwriter Andrey Zolotkov. “Vivid animation, memorable characters, and deep themes, presented in an accessible way, make the project both educational and entertaining. It teaches ecological responsibility and a respectful attitude towards the environment. The heroes set an example of overcoming challenges together while respecting nature and each other.”
Viewers will see innovative technologies used to study the Arctic ecosystem. The region is presented in the project as a hub for scientific discoveries and economic opportunities in Russia. The series also features elements of the cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic, their traditions, and way of life.
“Working on this project was a pleasant challenge because Amana is a very complex character. I immediately envisioned her as a person of the elements, embodying nature in human form. We spent a long time finding her voice, speech mannerisms, and unique traits. Once we did, I truly enjoyed the process because Amana revealed new facets of her character in every episode. She can be strong and no-nonsense, but also touching and funny. Along the way, I learned a few words in Yakut. Later, when I saw how everything was drawn, I fell in love with the project even more,” says actress Taisiya Trishina, who voices Amana.
The music for the series was composed by Alexander Billion:
“Since the story of ‘White Dreams’ is surrounded by dense ice and harsh white snow, I aimed to convey not only the ‘polar beauty’ but also the coziness created by the characters. Thus, the soundtrack primarily features ‘warm’ analog synthesizers, which occasionally mimic polar winds and sparkling snow. The synthetic sound also incorporates a semi-rock theme for team leader Kolya and the charming, mystical theme of the local resident Amana, which uses unique northern instruments such as the Jew’s harp and talharpa.”
Voice actor Vladimir Voityuk, who voices Yuri and Mingli, is confident that audiences will love the series for its uniqueness, intelligence, humor, and vibrant visuals. He adds, “‘White Dreams’ will surprise viewers with its sincerity, depth, and visual execution.”
The project has already received recognition from the professional industry and audiences: “White Dreams” was awarded prizes at the All-Russian Children’s and Family Cinema and Animation Festival “Medvezhonok” in the categories “Best Animated Series” and “Audience Choice.”
