The Ministry of Culture will support a new project by the Parovoz studio — the animated film Momster
17.07.2025
Parovoz studio has received support from the Ministry of Culture of Russia for the creation of a new short animated film Momster (dir. Lio Vargas). The results of the main selection for subsidies from the Ministry of Culture for the production of national films were announced on July 16, 2025.
In total, 154 projects will receive government support, including 41 animated films, 50 feature films, and 63 documentaries. The full list of recipients is published on the official website of the ministry.
Momster is a comedic animated story about a little boy named Louie who is frightened every night by a monster of darkness in his bedroom. Louie is afraid of the dark and seeks protection from his mother. But when his mom gets angry, she herself turns into a monster. The hero must face two monsters at once — and, more importantly, confront his own fears.
The creators of the film emphasize that Momster is an important conversation about the nature of childhood fears, prejudices, and the ways to overcome them. The animated film encourages viewers of all ages to ask themselves: “What am I afraid of?” “What is afraid of me?” — and to realize that open communication and family support help us cope even with the most terrifying experiences.
In November 2023, the short animated film Momster (dir. Lio Vargas) won the second in-house pitch at Parovoz studio.
The project will be the latest original animated film by Parovoz studio, aimed at a family audience.
