The Boy and the Heron by Hayao Miyazaki won an Oscar

On March 10, the American Film Academy announced the winners of the Academy Awards for the 96th time. “The Boy and the Heron” by Hayao Miyazaki was named the best animated film of 2024. It is the second Oscar in the director’s career. For the first time he was awarded in 2003 for the cartoon Spirited Away.
Oscar-2024 nominees in the Best Animated Film category are:
- “Elemental”, directed by Peter Sohn
- “Nimona”, directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Kwon
- “Robot Dreams”, directed by Pablo Bercher
- “Spider-Man: Web of Spider-Man”, directed by Joaquin Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin Thompson
The best short animated film became the film “The War is Over!” Inspired by the music of John and Yoko, directed by Dave Mullins.
Oscar-2024 nominees in the Best Animated Short Film category are:
- “Letter to a Pig”, directed by Tal Kantor
- “Ninety-Five Senses”, directed by Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess
- “Our Uniform”, directed by Yeganeh Moghaddam
